Valentine’s Day Sports Activities

Be creative this Valentine’s Day! Instead of the usual dinner and flowers, do something active. Check out our ideas for Valentine’s Day fun in San Francisco, New York City, and LA.

SAN FRANCISCO/BAY AREA

Bike Ride Across Golden Gate Bridge into Beautiful Northern California

Grab your date and head for the famed Golden Gate Bridge. As you work out those legs and bike across the bridge, you’ll see beautiful views of San Francisco and the bay. Still have energy? Bike through Sausalito and Tiburon, and go for a hike through Muir Woods. If you’re too tired after that workout to bike back to the city, relax and take a ferry cruise back to the city.

Surfing at Stinson Beach
If you and your date love to surf, head north of San Francisco to Stinson Beach. As you drive on PCH towards the beach, you’ll see breathtaking views of the Pacific off the California Coast. The water at Stinson can be cold so bring your wet suit and be on the lookout for sharks - there have been known great white shark attacks!

Ice Skating at Yerba Buena
Head to the Yerba Buena Ice Skating Rink in downtown San Francisco for an afternoon of ice skating or bowling. Skate rentals are available, but if you really want to show off your triple axel or quadruple toe loop, we suggest you bring your own.

SAP Open Tennis Tournament
For you tennis fans out there, what better way to spend V-Day than at the SAP Open Tennis Tournament in San Jose. This year’s tournament features some of the biggest names including James Blake, Leyton Hewitt and Andy Roddick.

Half Moon Bay Sea Kayaking
Head 25 miles south to Half Moon Bay for an afternoon of sea kayaking. You can go to Pillar Point, and kayak with seals, birds, and other marine life. Kayak rentals are available, check out these places to rent kayaks:

NEW YORK CITY

Ice skating in Central Park
Nestled in Central Park, away from the tourists at Rock Center, Wollman Rink serves as the perfect setting for a Valentine’s Day date. Single? Be sure to sign up for Wollman’s co-ed pond hockey on Tuesday nights…you never know you might face-up against!

Couples Yoga in Clinton or Williamsburg
Think Yoga is a solo activity? Think again. OmYoga in Clinton is hosting a special partners yoga just for Valentine’s Day. Or take your yoga to extremes together at Aerial yoga in Williamsburg - classes use a low-hanging trapeze in combination with traditional yoga.

Have a Twosome at the Driving Range
At the driving range! No need to wait until spring to get that arm in shape. Chelsea Piers driving range is open all year long and even offers off-season discounts.

Horsebacking Riding on the Beach in Brooklyn
It’s true and it’s open all-year.

Swim & Massage in Flushing
Spend the day at Spa Castle in Flushing. The four-story facilities boasts a full gym, heated outdoor pool (even open when it’s snowing!), and multiple levels of saunas and hot tubs. Top the day off with one of their many relaxing spa services.

LOS ANGELES

Couples Yoga Workshop
Grab your sweetie for a 2 day yoga workshop. Single? No worries, a partner will be provided for you. Great way to practice yoga as you and your partner correct each others poses.

Hiking in Griffith Park
Take your sweetie on a hike through Griffith Park. Situated in the heart of the bustling city, once you enter this park, you will forget you are in the City of Angels. With 53 miles of hiking paths, there is hiking for all levels. Watch out for the wild life that you might encounter. With deer, snake, and bobcats, who needs the zoo?

Surf Lessons - Surfs Up SoCal!
Head to one of the beautiful Southern California beaches for some surfing. Head to the world famous Surfrider beach in Malibu if you are an experienced surfer, or for beginniners, check out Zuma beach. If you need surfing lessons, check out

Horseback Riding in LA
Go for a romantic horseback ride right under the “Hollywood” sign. For Valentine’s Day, go for a 2 hour sunset ride, including a BBQ back at the horse ranch.

White Water Rafting
Be adventurous this Valentine’s Day and head for the America River and Kaweah River for some white water rafting. Since these rivers are suitable for the experienced as well as the novice, they are the most popular rivers in CA to raft in.
